Four Day Work Week

So much for consistent blogging right? Well I’m back at work and having a great time (I love that I love my job)! The problem is, I miss being at home with Jaxon. So about two weeks ago I approached my boss with an idea. A few months ago I got a promotion that took me out of desktop support and into more of a systems administrator role. My job is now more project based and there will need to be some after-hours work done sometimes. Since I’m not salaried, this will certainly mean either getting overtime (which my department can’t afford) or flexing my time (which leaves me behind on my normal work). So I asked my boss if I could switch to a four day work week. Basically, instead of working five, eight hour days, I’d be working four, ten hour days. Management here tends to be cautious of change (and rightfully so) but to my surprise, he said yes!
So my new schedule will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00am to 7:00pm. That means Wednesdays off! It’s a win-win situation. I get two hours each day from 5:00-7:00 to do after-hours work and get things done without the phone ringing, and in case something goes down during that time, the department has someone to cover phones. But I also get one whole day a week at home with Jaxon, PLUS, having Wednesdays off means I’ve got myself a perpetual two-day work week. It’s brilliant and everyone benefits! We’ll see how long it lasts. I’m guessing a few months at least, but if all goes well I could have this schedule for a while. Yay!

Hey, you found your blog! Welcome back!
Here you say you love your job. Later you say you don’t. Here you say you loved being home with your son. HMMM do you think later when you say you don’t love your job it may be because you miss being home with your son? Or is it that your son is being cared for by other people and not you and his mother?
